In addition to their daily upkeep of the grounds, the gardens team also host a range of events throughout the year as part of our ‘In the Garden’ series.
These events, which take the shape of skills workshops, drop-in sessions or seasonal celebrations, allow our staff to share their knowledge and connect with keen horticulturalists of all ages.

In the Garden: Rose Pruning Workshop

Join our Head Gardener for this hands-on workshop dedicated to caring for roses.
Learn the essential horticultural principles and methods of pruning roses to keep your plants healthy and flowering beautifully.

In the Garden: Winter Tree Pruning Workshop

Learn how to prune trees during the winter months and ensure growth for years to come.
Under expert guidance from our gardening team, this session will cover the techniques, seasonal timings, tools and best practice on keeping your trees in tidy shape.

In the Garden: Fruit Tree Grafting Workshop
Sunday 25th February 2024 | £10 | booking required
Join our knowledgeable gardening team and learn how to take grafts from your fruit trees and grow new additions for your garden.
This hands-on session will include guidance on the best tools and techniques needed to maintain fruit trees. You will also be able to take up to three new trees home with you to start your own mini-orchard!

In the Garden: Seed Swap

Looking to refresh your garden? Bring us your spare seeds in exchange for heritage seeds!
Whether you run an allotment, are part of an organisation or are simply a keen home horticulturist, this free session is the perfect chance to meet other enthusiastic gardeners.
We will have a selection of seeds from Ordsall Hall available for you to take home, in addition to anything provided by fellow participants. There will also be a pop-up bookstall featuring many gardening books!
All the seeds will be free, and books will be available via donation to Ordsall Hall.
